Project Summary

The USDA NIFA PDAL Project at IAUPR Barranquitas, in collaboration with specific universities in USA and entities aims to enhance opportunities and improve learning experiences for public and private school teachers (K-14) to acquire knowledge and apply educational practices in the field of agricultural biotechnology in their schools.
4 year award (2022-2026) from USDA $500,000 Second year of Residential Workshop Held from June 13-17, 2023 Participants: 34 teachers from 28 public and private schools from Puerto Rico

Objectives

Complete residential hands – on training of K-14 teachers in inquiry – based teaching and experiential learning in Agricultural Biotechnology to successfully transfer the skills in their classes.
Strengthen online teaching skills of teachers by training them in curriculum development through a continuing education certification program.
Select and engage teachers in summer research projects at one of the collaborating institutions.
